Are you curious about all those funny calligraphied shapes in the prayerbook?
- Do you remember a thing or two from Hebrew School or Yiddish shule but aren't sure how to restart your learning?
- Are you newly Jewish, Jew-adjacent and/or a "late bloomer" who's looking to deepen your fluency in Jewish tradition?
- Or are you just looking for more opportunities to build community, learn together, and empower one another to explore Judaism & Jewishness?
We're excited to be gearing up for our second-iteration of our Aleph Bet Intensive course, where we'll cover the basics of letter recognition, writing, reading and deciphering Hebrew in preparation for deeper study of Hebrew, Judaic languages (many of which, like Yiddish and Judeo-Arabic, utilize the Hebrew script) and Jewish tradition. We'll also cover some basic Hebrew vocabulary to help make services much more accessible!
This is class is designed for adult learners of all backgrounds to learn the very basic elements of the Hebrew alphabet, or aleph bet. We'll gather together over dinner in an informal setting and work through a custom-designed curriculum that incorporates writing, music, apps on your mobile device, and more. By the end of this course, we hope that everyone will be able to read the blessings off the side of the Chanukah candle box!
This class is open to the public and, thanks to the generosity of the D. Dan & Betty Kahn Foundation, is being offered at a voluntary pay-what-you-can rate, to help offset the costs of dinner and staff labor. RSVP for more info.
NOTE: Date, timing & duration will be determined based on participant availability and preferences!
RSVP here to get on an email list for further details as this group develops! Feel free to email [email protected] with any questions.
